Bachelor in Human Centred Informatics

You choose Human Centered Informatics because you want to be absorbed in and work with how to develop the user friendliness and communication options of the computer media – for instance by designing user interfaces and system development or by using ICT in learning and communication processes.

After the initial 2 year introductory course the bachelor programme in Human Centered Informatics has two modules with different themes that shape the courses and exercises of each semester, and not least the theme of the projects for the semester project exams. Read more about application at the bottom of the page

5th Semester: ICT-systems: Use and Meaning

The purpose of this module is that you acquire knowledge and theoretical insight into central knowledge areas of Human Centered Informatics and that you through courses, exercises, and the project work will sharpen your analytical and constructive skills, especially with design of user interfaces and education.

Through exercises you will gain practical experience with programming, interaction design, learning, and education.

Examples of topics from 5th semester:

  • Presentation of Information and Communication Technology (ICT)
  • Human-Computer Interaction
  • Artificial Intelligence and Expert Systems
  • Programming Methods
  • Interface Design

6th Semester: System Design

The purpose of the module is that you acquire such a degree of theoretical, analytical, and practical skills that you can be part of system development projects in miscellaneous organisational contexts. You must gain an understanding and consciousness of your role and responsibility in those contexts. Through exercises you will gain practical experience, especially with pre-examinations, analyses, and evaluation of ICT-design and ICT-use in organisations, like you will be comfortable with both system design and programming.

Examples of topics from 6th semester:

  • System Design
  • Practical System Design
  • Systems in Organisations
  • Programming Methods

Your 6th semester project will be your bachelor project.

The Path Beyond

When you get your bachelor’s degree you can either choose to head out into the job market, or keep studying for the 2-year Master’s Degree. The education gives you the opportunity for you to qualify, on a scientific basis, for the communication, information, media, and IT sectors, which during the last 10-15 years have grown substantially and hired many academics. On the Job Opportunities you can see for yourself where students from Human Centered Informatics have been hired.

What do you learn, and what competencies do you get?

The bachelor in Human Centered Informatics aims specifically at qualifying the student into being able to:

  • describe, analyse, assess, and design ICT
  • educate and advise ICT users
  • create investigations, analyses, and descriptions connected to implementation of ICT-systems in corporations and organisations
  • organise and handle user support, usability analysis and test
  • communicate and cooperate in virtual spaces
  • plan, design, complete, and evaluate ICT-based education and continuing education (e-learning)
  • teach informatics
  • work in group-based problem oriented project work with all of the above and be a critical and constructive actor in the development of information technology

The 2 Year Introductory Course – Humanistic Informatics

As a student, you are accepted on the interdisciplinary course Humanistic Informatics that stretches over four semesters (equivalent to two years). After this, you can choose to study Human Centered Informatics for two semesters (equivalent to one year). This earns you the Bachelor’s Degree in Human Centred Informatics.

Conditions for Application

As you can read above, the bachelor programme in Human Centered Informatics begin with the interdisciplinary course at Humanistic Informatics. You can read more about Humanistic Informatics in the Study Guide or on the Humanisitc Informatics Homepage. You can also read more about the curriculum here ».

Concerning the rules for getting accepted to the education, this works in the same way as all the courses on Aalborg University. You can read a lot more about that one the study guide’s pages on applying for Aalborg University.
